* Field recording as a way to encounter and articulate place

7 JUNE

10:45, Copacabana
One of Rio’s sound tracks is the banging sound of construction works. The preparation for the World Cup and Olympics is taking over the city.

All the windows are open and the construction sounds are entering the room coming from both sides of the building. Usually the morning period is quiet around the house. There’s the occasional bird sound jumping to the foreground while the traffic and the waves populate the background with the same intensity. Not today.

The washing machine is on. Tullis is at the computer, I pressed rec and am listening while writing this text.
